We are pleased to announce the successful completion of a landmark project with Innovate UK, contributing to the development and construction of our commercial-scale hydrothermal advanced plastic recycling facility – Mura Wilton (formerly known as ReNew ELP) in Teesside, North East England.

With the support of £4.42 million in funding from Innovate UK, the UK Government’s innovation agency, the completed site represents a major milestone not only for Mura Technology but also for the future of plastic recycling in the UK and beyond.

Mura Wilton has been the largest project within Innovate UK’s Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging (SSPP) Challenge which aimed to establish the UK as a leading innovator in sustainable plastics, driving cleaner growth across the supply chain and delivering a significant reduction in plastic waste entering the environment by 2025. Today, as the Innovate UK-backed phase of the project comes to a successful close, we want to extend our sincere thanks to everyone involved.

The goal of the project was not just about building a single facility – it was about proving a model for the world’s future approach to plastic waste and circular economy innovation.

Paul Davidson, SSPP Challenge Director, said:

We’re proud to have worked closely with the team at Mura as part of the Smart Sustainable Plastic Packaging Challenge. Their delivery of such a complex facility—despite global supply chain delays—has been nothing short of impressive. But their contribution extends far beyond the plant itself; through leadership in helping to shape policy and regulation, such as mass balance, and their LCA work, they’ve helped shape the foundation for advanced recycling in the UK and globally. It’s been a pleasure to support a team so committed to meaningful, system-level impact.

Steven Garbutt, Project Director at Mura Technology, said:

It has been a pleasure to work closely with the team at IUK and believe this kind of collaborative, long- term investment in breakthrough technologies is exactly what the UK needs to lead in the global green economy.
